Chapter 22—Standardized Labeling and Packaging as a Device for Prevention of Medication Errors

Source

Accurate identification of products has been a matter of great concern to both manufacturers and consumers, and has received much attention in the past few years. Clearly, there is an urgent need for the development of standards by which manufacturers can best communicate important information concerning products to consumers, so that users can effectively comprehend all essential information and instructions provided by the manufacturers. Failing this, confusion and mishaps, some of which could be catastrophic but preventable, will result. Therefore, the importance of proper labeling and packaging cannot be overemphasized.
