Vision is a complex phenomenon consisting of several basic components. Sight from external sources is brought to a focus on the retina of the eye. Changes are produced which initiate electrical impulses. These are conducted over the optic nerve and optic tract to the brain where the visual sensation is perceived and interpreted.
