A laboratory test procedure to measure the efflorescence and water permeance of masonry mortars is presented. Quantitative and qualitative values of the efflorescence growth compounds can be measured using a technique that accelerates their development in a controlled laboratory environment. Using this same simple test apparatus, a minor change in testing procedures will also provide quantitative data on the water permeance of masonry mortars.
