Internal friction in an yttrium oxide dispersion-strengthened nickel-chromium alloy (Inconel MA 754 alloy) was measured at temperatures ranging from 15 to 1200°C and at frequencies from 1 to 35 Hz. Measurements were made also for Nimonic 75 alloy, which has essentially the same chemical composition as the matrix of MA 754 alloy. In both alloys, the internal friction plotted against temperature is composed of a peak component and a background component. The activation energy of the grain boundary viscosity obtained from the peak component was 360 and 310 kJ/mol for MA 754 alloy and Nimonic 75 alloy, respectively. The background component was discussed in terms of the behavior of dislocations.
