Three-Dimensional Analysis of Short-Bar Chevron-Notched Specimens by the Boundary Integral Method

Source

An analysis was performed, of the three-dimensional elastic problem of the chevron-notched short-bar specimen, using the boundary integral equation method. This method makes use of boundary surface elements only in obtaining the solution. Results were obtained for various notch geometries, and included displacement and stress fields. Load line displacements, and stress-intensity factors determined both from strain calculations and compliance calculations were compared with experimental values obtained at NASA Lewis Research Center. Good agreement was obtained.
