Why Construction Sealants Fail -- An Overview

Source

This article is intended as an overview of why construction sealants fail in the “real world”. These reasons can be categorized by design errors, application errors and materials failures. Design failures are those which occur from the work of the design professional, such as improper joint sizing. Application failures are those that occur due to problems during installation, such as lack of surface preparation. Materials failures result not only from problems with the sealant itself, but also because of the substrates to which they are applied.
