Structural Silicone Sealant Requirements for Attaching Stone Panels for Exterior Applications

Source

This paper attempts to discuss the requirements for an adhesive attachment for stone panels 1.25–3 cm in thickness used in exterior applications. Adhesion requirements are discussed and tensile adhesion testing is suggested through various environments such as heat and humidity cycling, freeze thaw cycling and acid rain exposure. Structural perimeter seals, stiffeners and bedding applications are discussed. ASTM C-880 is discussed with modifications to properly identify if the stone used on a project is proper for the exterior application. Limitations through fire are discussed and recommendations to the design professional are suggested.
