    Processing parameters have been examined in an effort to identify methods for meaningful control and enhancement of texture in Zircaloy tubing. The parameters found to have significant influence on texture are those that describe the distribution of plastic deformation (Q ratio) between the radial and circumferential directions due to wall and diameter reduction during processing by the cold pilger mill. Included in this work was the development of a new method of texture enhancement using an increment of positive circumferential deformation by hydraulic expansion. While the effect of deformation history on texture in zirconium alloy tubes has been reported extensively, the results of this effort reveal that significant control of texture is available through the control of texture of the material at intermediate stages of processing. The results of this work also revealed that the relationship between the two primary methods of texture characterization in Zircaloy tubes (i.e., radial texture parameter and contractile strain ratio) is dependent on the metallurgical condition of the material.
