Some effects of high dose implantation, performed at room temperature to implant iron ions in aluminum, have been examined by Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS). The changes brought about by post-implantation heat treatments and subsequent reimplantation have also been studied, with special reference to the formation and dissolution of intermetallic phases. The values of the quadropole split with ΔE and the quadrupole doublet shift δsq have been used for phase identification. The Mössbauer observations have been interpreted, keeping in view the results of earlier investigations based on Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) on aluminum specimens subjected to implantation and thermal treatments somewhat similar to those used in the present work.
