ITEMS: A Workbench for Environmental Data Processing and Display

Source

A database management system has been developed for recording, processing, and displaying analytical and environmental data. The system is being used to support monitoring studies, investigations, and remedial actions at hazardous waste sites. The various modules of the system allow the user to enter field data; receive analytical results in electronic format; prepare standard and ad hoc reports; produce graphs; construct two- and three-dimensional plots of ground water elevations and contaminant concentrations; and automatically generate boring logs. Easy-to-use interfaces are provided to standard off-the-shelf software packages. A unique feature of the system is a reference chemical database consisting of over 2500 of the most commonly tested chemical substances. The system, which is entirely menu-driven, runs on MS-DOS microcomputers.
