A materials property databank for aluminium alloys with information adapted to engineering applications is presented. The databank contains property data for about 100 wrought and 45 cast alloys. Data exist for mechanical, physical and thermal properties as well as for technological properties related to formability, joining, corrosion resistance, etc. The total number of properties is at present 58. The system offers flexibility in the way search criteria can be entered as well as in data presentation modes which heavily rely on graphics. Both systematic materials selection including preselection, discriminating search and optimisation as well as more conventional semi-systematic methods are available. MATEDS has been used extensively in university education and for industrial applications since 1988.
