The Leaf Tip Cell-Micronucleus Bioassay and Air Pollution Monitoring

Source

We study the Vicia faba leaf tip cell-micronucleus test (Vicia-LTMT) to expand the monitoring scope of the Vicia plant. The paper reports positive findings in detecting poisonous gas (xylene, hydrogen sulfide) by the utilization of Vicia-LTMT. The in situ monitoring of air pollution in Huangshi, an industrial area, was conducted at four locations, where seedlings were exposed for 4 h. The micronucleus (MCN) frequencies of the V. faba leaf tip cells in each location were obviously higher than the control (F > F0.01, P < 0.01) by statistical analysis. The results show various degrees of pollution in these industrial areas.
