Round-Robin Test: Chemical Analysis Capability of the Steel Material Laboratories

Source

In 2014, Siemens AG initiated round-robin testing with regard to the chemical analysis capability of the steel composition from different steel plants, bearing suppliers, and external laboratories. In total, Siemens has gathered results from more than 20 labs and evaluated/analyzed more than 10 main steel elements using the following approach: 1) Definition and verification of samples: Reference values are based on an analysis certificate of the sample material by the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, with the part-to-part standard deviation calculated using the analysis of variance method. 2) Gathering of results: Measurements per element of the reference samples have been provided to Siemens AG by laboratories and steel suppliers. The result is the ratio of the standard deviation of the measured values, as an indicator of the capability of the measurement process, and the Siemens tolerance range.
