Application Study of Alkylether Citrate Surfactants in 2,4-D IOE Herbicide Concentrated Emulsion Formulations

Source

Concentrated emulsion (EW) formulations containing iso-octyl 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetate (2,4-D IOE) were prepared with alkylether citrate (AEC) surfactants and evaluated in greenhouse tests. The results demonstrate that 2,4-D EW formulations deliver equal or better weed control when compared to commercial emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulations. The degree of weed control increased as the amount of AEC increased in the formulation for some broadleaf species. Increasing the amount of AEC surfactants has the benefit of reduced 2,4-D loading in the EW formulations while maintaining the same broadleaf control. Overall, AEC surfactants are found to act as excellent emulsifiers and adjuvants for 2,4-D herbicide EW formulations. This presents an attractive option for formulating economical, solvent-free, and environmentally friendly agricultural products.
