U.S. Reformulated Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel and the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, 4th Edition

Author(s): ["Committee D02"]

U.S. Reformulated Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel and the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard was prepared by members of Committee D02 on Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants. It was formerly known as Research Report D02: 1347.

This report provides information on the requirements of the U.S. reformulated gasoline program for ground vehicles equipped with spark-ignition engines as well as the U.S. EPA Renewable Fuel Standard program. It describes various characteristics of reformulated fuels required for use in automotive vehicles within severe and extreme ozone nonattainment areas as designated by the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990 and in those ozone nonattainment areas that opt in to the federal reformulated gasoline program or require certain EPA approved state fuels in their State Implementation Plans.

The report also includes information on states that are part of the Federal Reformulated Gasoline Program or that have EPA-approved cleaner burning gasoline requirements in their State Implementation Plans. This latest edition, MONO12-4TH, provides a comprehensive overview of the U.S. EPA Renewable Fuel Standard program requirements established by Congress under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (P.L. 110-140). EPA’s final renewable fuel standard requirements for 2019 and biomass-based diesel volume for 2020 are provided. It includes federal EPA requirements for gasoline sulfur and Mobile Source Air Toxics and a table of ASTM, EPA, and California Air Resources Board Test Methods
