    Abstract

    This chapter defines specifications, explains their value, and describes how specifications are used by government bodies, material producers, and material users to successfully manage their operations. It focuses on fuel standards that are most commonly adopted by U.S. state and federal regulatory agencies, how those standards are used to establish performance limits, and the most common properties that are routinely enforced by regulatory agencies.
