In consonance with legal terminology, Italian police manuals classify the police as the Public Force and proceed to consider it from the perspective of its technical functions: security police, administrative police, judicial police, and confinement police . The first two functions fall under the purview of the pertinent executive departments of the government and the last two are subject to the jurisdiction of the judicial branch.
