New Practice for Predicting the Performance of Coal Fly Ash and other Supplementary Cementitious Materials for Use in Concrete

1. Scope

This document is intended to provide guidance to designers, specifiers, inspectors, testing agencies, producers, and contractors in determining how coal fly ash and other supplementary cementitious materials will perform when used in concrete mixtures in combination with hydraulic cements

Keywords

performance specification, pozzolan, fly ash, supplementary cementitious materials, reactivity

Rationale

There are existing and emerging methodologies and tests for assessing the performance of coal fly ash and other supplementary cementitious materials when used in concrete mixtures with Portland cement or other hydraulic cements. This guide will provide information to assist users in applying these methodologies and tests, and interpreting the result. The guide will also address considerations for including these existing and emerging methodologies and tests in materials specifications. The user of this document will be designers, specifiers, inspectors, testing agencies, producers, and contractors.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
