ASTM WK77679

    Revision of A350 / A350M - 18 Standard Specification for Carbon and Low-Alloy Steel Forgings, Requiring Notch Toughness Testing for Piping Components

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A350 / A350M - 18

    Developed by Subcommittee: A01.22 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK77679

    Keywords

    carbon equivalent; pipe fittings, steel; piping applications; pressure containing parts; steel flanges; steel forgings, alloy; steel forgings, carbon; steel valves; temperature service applications, low;;

    Rationale

    Tensile and impact testing of flanges has not always given consistent impact resistance. For welding neck flanges the critical area is generally the welding ends. Other types of flanges are also covered. To achieve any kind of consistency in getting similar results when tested by others, the location and orientation of testing should be standardized. This new supplementary requirement is intended to provide that consistency. The mandatory heat treatment and fine grain practice of the base specification naturally apply.
