ASTM WK76667

New Test Method for Determining the tensile strength of GCCM materials

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D35.01 | Committee D35 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

SCOPE: To test GCCM materials for tensile strength in both the uncured and cured state

uncured tensile strength; cured tensile strength

A new standard for determining the tensile strength testing method for GCCM materials is needed because the current tensile strength test methods do not deal directly with composite (Multiple element) materials, where the product is both a supple, textile-like material when uncured, then when hardened it becomes a thin shell-like hard structure. Specifically, the speed of testing for the two different phase materials needs to be significantly different. Also, the clamping mechanism may be different for the hardened/hydrated material compared with the uncured/un-hydrated. Notches may need to be cut in the cured specimens to encourage the initial break to occur away from the clamps.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
