ASTM WK75901

New Test Method for Additive Manufacturing -- Test Artifacts -- Miniature Tension Testing of Metallic Materials

1. Scope

Miniature rectangular cross-section tension test specimens with gauge length 10-15 mm for metallic materials.

Keywords

Miniature tension test specimen; miniature tensile test specimen; subsize tensile test specimen; subsize tensile test coupon

Rationale

Tensile test specimens with rectangular cross-section and gauge length between 10-15 mm are used in miniature tensile tests of metallic materials. However, there is no ASTM standards for this size. The smallest rectangular cross-section tension test specimen in the ASTM E8/E8M is the Subsize 6 mm Wide with gauge length of 25 mm. This revision specifies a geometry with 12.5 mm gauge length with tensile results comparable to using the larger 25 mm gauge length. Thus, direct comparison of the tensile test results using both gauge lengths can be made.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
