ASTM E3044/E3044M Standard includes two examination procedures for testing Polyethylene Butt Fusion Joints. The is another ultrasonic examination procedure that is published and being practiced by the industry but not included in this standard. The idea is to standardized this method so the industry has a procedure in place. The method is called Side Wave introduction by Chord Transducer (SWCT) and is used widely by the gas industry for steel and polyethylene butt fusion joints.
