    Rationale

ASTM C1670/C1670M discusses sampling at the manufacturing facility for all properties. Since units are wet cast and many properties are determined on the mix design (rather than finished units), experience has shown that shipping of mix materials to a laboratory and mixed in laboratory conditions is a viable method for determining mix design properties (such as compressive strength and freeze-thaw durability). Note that based on the procedures in ASTM C157/C157M for linear drying shrinkage, this is already done for that test. This ballot proposes revisions to the sampling requirements for compressive strength and freeze-thaw to allow for sampling of raw materials and mixing in the laboratory.
