Developed by Subcommittee: D20.95 | Committee D20 | Contact Staff Manager
1. Scope
This specification covers the identification of recycled polyethylene materials in accordance with a cell classification system. This classification system is capable of indicating total recycled content, material origin, physical properties, quality metrics and regulatory guidance when known. It is not the function of this specification to provide specific engineering data for design purposes to specify manufacturing tolerances, or to determine suitability for use for a specific application.

This standard is a natural progression building on ASTM D7611, Standard Practice for Coding Plastic Manufactured Articles for Resin Identification. Many of the materials classified under this standard will originate as a #2 (HDPE) or #4 (LDPE) under D7611 and this standard will allow further classification of the physical and rheological properties of the material as well as detail types and level of contamination and regulatory suitability. The standard will also be flexible enough to classify recycled materials that are made of more than one material and that could contain additives that promote desired physical properties or compatibility.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
