    1. Scope

    This test method will be primarily used for the copper rod producers to measure the oxide layer thickness on the surface of the rod, making sure the rod pickling process was properly conducted and rod is compliant with B49 requirements.

    Even though the determination of Surface oxides thickness on copper rod (for electrical purposes) is a mandatory test required to comply with ASTMB49 specification, currently there is no ASTM standard describing how this test must be conducted. The test is used by the producers of copper rod for electrical purposes.
