Revision of D2837-13e1 Standard Test Method for Obtaining Hydrostatic Design Basis for Thermoplastic Pipe Materials or Pressure Design Basis for Thermoplastic Pipe Products

Rationale

This project is to add 1400 psi HDB and PDB categories into tables 1 & 2. There are a large number of products in the marketplace that have either a 1250 psi or 1600 psi HDB/PDB following the Renard R10 series. The gap between these two categories is wide (350 psi) especially when compared to the gap between 1600 psi and 1800 psi HDB/PDB categories (and higher categories), which follow the Renard R20 series. This 25% step becomes restrictive and potentially reduces new product development so a 1400 psi category will foster innovation and allow the full potential of these products to be realized. The new 1400 psi HDB/PDB category will not result in inaccurate data or misrepresentation of data, so there is no anticipated risk to users from the introduction of the new categories. The interval values and any implied overlap between categories is consistent with those of any other categories using the R20 series so this proposal does not represent a departure from the approach used in this standard for other R20 categories.
