ASTM WK73375

New Guide for Mitigation of Wildfire Risk to Water Utilities

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E50.05 | Committee E50 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK73375

    1. Scope

This guide will recommend fuel management prior to a wildfire, suppression strategies during a wildfire, erosion mitigation post fire, and water treatment as the last step to limit contaminates from entering the water supply to protect the users.

    Keywords

wildfire, water utility, water treatment, erosion mitigation, forest management

    Rationale

Wildfires post a significant risk to water utilities as they can cause contaminates to enter the drinking water supply. This can endanger human health if the utility is not prepared. Land management agencies for water sheds and water utility companies may find this standard useful.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
