    Rationale

    A recently approved change to 2021 International Building Code (IBC) Section 2303.2.3 requires fire-retardant treated wood structural panels to be tested with a ripped or cut longitudinal gap when tested in accordance with E84. The revisions proposed to E2579, which is referenced by E84, will accommodate testing to meet the 2021 IBC.
