New Guide for Identifying Potential Ergonomic Risks From Exoskeleton Use

1. Scope

Provide information to identify potential ergonomic risk factors of exoskeletons that are used to improve worker safety.

Keywords

ergonomics; ergonomic injuries; ergonomic hazards; cumulative trauma; MSDs; musculoskeletal disorders, RSIs; repetitive strain injuries; RMIs; repetitive motion injuries; CTDs; cumulative trauma disorders; biomechanics; vibration; whole-body vibration; hand-arm vibration; contact pressure

Rationale

Exoskeletons are often procured to reduce workers' risk of ergonomic injuries to the musculoskeletal system. However, the exoskeletons themselves can create new risks or exacerbate existing one. Implementers of exoskeletons (the intended users) need information on the potential ergonomic risks of exoskeletons.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
