ASTM WK72710

New Specification for Universal Symbol for Products Containing Cannabinoids

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D37.04 | Committee D37 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK72710

    1. Scope

This Standard Specification will apply to all consumer products that contain greater than 0.3% total THC

    Keywords

consumer safety; label; universal symbol; thc; cannabis; marijuana

    Rationale

Jurisdictions with legal cannabis typically require a warning symbol for products that contain THC in quantities greater than 0.3% by weight/volume. However, there are nearly as many unique symbols as there are jurisdictions with legal cannabis. This standard, which would be adopted by regulatory bodies and followed by producers will provide uniformity mitigating potential consumer confusion and costs of creating unique labels for each jurisdiction that a producer sells in.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
