ASTM WK72394

    Revision of A109 / A109M - 16(2018) Standard Specification for Steel, Strip, Carbon (0.25 Maximum Percent), Cold-Rolled

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A109 / A109M - 16(2018)

    Developed by Subcommittee: A01.19 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    carbon steel, strip; cold rolled steel strip; steel strip;;

    The proposed change relates to the hardness test used for very thin strip. ASTM A109 currently lists R15N scale for hardness measurement of any strip with a thickness less than .025. However, according to ASTM E18 standard, there are minimum valid thicknesses for various hardness readings in the R15T scale. Strip can be purchased in thickness that is thinner than the thickness that would create a valid R15T scale reading. It is proposed that minimum thickness for R15T scale be added to the table as well as Vickers hardness readings per ASTM E92 for thinner materials.
