New Test Method for Pummel Adhesion testing of two-ply laminated architectural glass

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C14.08 | Committee C14 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 To determine the relative strength of the adhesive bond between interlayer and glass. 1.2 Outlines a test method to be used on laminated architectural glass with 2 layers of glass bonded by an interlayer. 1.3 Test method covers manual mechanical testing and visual rating of tested specimens. 1.4 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    Adhesion; laminated glass; pummel

The pummel test method described in this document has been used in the glass industry to determine the relative adhesive bond between interlayers and glass in laminated glass products for decades. The tests have been documented and propagated by interlayer manufacturers, fabricators and specified as part of routine quality control. The test has not been documented in an ASTM referenceable form. The approval of this test method resolves that issue and makes the test method more accessible to the users and general public for proper referencing as well as providing mechanism to standardize testing and evaluation.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
