    1. Scope

    1.1 To determine the relative strength of the adhesive bond between interlayer and glass. 1.2 Outlines a test method to be used on laminated architectural glass with 2 layers of glass bonded by an interlayer. 1.3 Test method covers manual mechanical testing and visual rating of tested specimens. 1.4 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.     Rationale

    The pummel test method described in this document has been used in the glass industry to determine the relative adhesive bond between interlayers and glass in laminated glass products for decades. The tests have been documented and propagated by interlayer manufacturers, fabricators and specified as part of routine quality control. The test has not been documented in an ASTM referenceable form. The approval of this test method resolves that issue and makes the test method more accessible to the users and general public for proper referencing as well as providing mechanism to standardize testing and evaluation.
