    Revision of C1860 - 19a Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Tensile Strength or Bond Strength of Portland Cement-Based Plaster by Direct Tension

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C1860 - 19a

    Developed by Subcommittee: C11.02 | Committee C11 | Contact Staff Manager

    Keywords

    bond strength; design wind load; design wind pressure; negative pressure; plaster; pull test; stucco; tensile bond; tensile bond strength;;

    Rationale

    As written, Section 6.3.1 of the test method prescribes a test area equal to the area of the suspected area of unbonded stucco multiplied by a factor of 2 up to maximum of 48 in. (1220 mm) square. Based on the task group meeting in Houston, the following revisions were discussed based on the following rationale: 1. In some instances, it may be necessary to adjust the size and location of the test apparatus to accommodate various geometric features, such as corners, utility penetrations, changes in planarity, etc. The proposed addition of the language in Section 6.3.2 allows for modification as needed in the field with appropriate justification and discussion in the report. 2.A test size of 48 in. (1220 mm) square is very large and can be dangerous to execute. The task group proposed reducing the size of the test to 24 in. (660 mm) square.
