    1. Scope

    This test method covers the quantitative determination of n-paraffins, i-paraffins, naphthenes and aromatics in middle distillates having a boiling point between 50 and 350 by GCxGC (comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography). As an example, the method is tested for aviation turbine fuels and applicable to other low olefinic fuels in the stated boiling point range.

    Rationale

    Accurate quantitative information on hydrocarbon types can be useful in determining the effects of petroleum processes in the production of various finished fuels. Producers may require additional determinations such as n-paraffins, i-paraffins, naphthenes and aromatics for process optimization and quality control. This test method can be used to make such determinations.
