ASTM WK71521

    Revision of C920 - 18 Standard Specification for Elastomeric Joint Sealants

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C920 - 18

    Developed by Subcommittee: C24.10 | Committee C24 | Contact Staff Manager

    Keywords

    continuous immersion; elastomeric sealants; joint sealants; sealants; specification ;;

    Rationale

    Update the standard to include an option to specify products that meet ASTM C1248 - Standard Test Method for Staining of Porous Substrate by Joint Sealants. ASTM C920 currently specifies the sealant shall not cause any stain to a white mortar cement base when tested in accordance with C510 Standard Test Method for Staining and Color Change of Single- and Multicomponent- Joint Sealants. C510 is a relatively short test used by manufacturers to evaluate staining and color change under accelerated weathering conditions without compression of the sealant specimen. ASTM C1248 is a test method used to evaluate staining of porous substrates with the samples placed into compression under accelerated weathering conditions over a longer period of time.
