    Rationale

    Currently ASTM E561 has a number of validity requirements related to specimen size and proportions, the fatigue precrack, crack plane symmetry, and the rate of force application scattered throughout the main body of the standard. The intent of this ballot is to summarize the validity checks in a new section (also referencing their place in the main body of the standard) to make it easier for a user of the standard ensure they are meeting these requirements.
