ASTM WK71516

    Reinstatement of D3278 - 96(2011) Standard Test Methods for Flash Point of Liquids by Small Scale Closed-Cup Apparatus (Withdrawn 2020)

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D3278 - 20

    Developed by Subcommittee: D01.21 | Committee D01 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK71516

    Keywords

    flash/no flash; flash point; organic peroxides; organic solvents; small scale closed-cup apparatus; Butanol (sec/tert/n); Closed-cup flash point methods; Flash point--liquids; Lacquer; Organic peroxides; Setaflash testers; Varnishes; para-Xylene;

    Rationale

    This method is widely referenced, and used, in National and International Transport and other regulations. In the D01 (17.03) ballot it received a negative from the EPA which cited the necessity for a significant (and needed) revision of the test method. Unfortunately the voter then retired and contact was lost. The proposal is to reinstate the test method. This will then be followed by a significant revision of the test method by the technical contact (Mike Sherratt), in conjunction with D01.21.
