ASTM WK70538

    Revision of A668 / A668M - 19a Standard Specification for Steel Forgings, Carbon and Alloy, for General Industrial Use

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A668 / A668M - 20a

    Developed by Subcommittee: A01.06 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK70538

    Keywords

    alloy steel forgings; carbon steel forgings; general industrial applications; heat treatment classifications; strength classifications;;

    Rationale

    For the non-quenched classes it is permitted to take the test from a size smaller than Tc provided the section has no more forge reduction that the smallest section of the forging itself. in such cases, the size used for testing determines the acceptance criteria. Forgings over 7000 # and 80 inches long must be tested on each end. When the ends are not the same size and the sizes have different acceptance criteria, current wording would require each end to meet different requirements. This ballot seeks to allow testing on both ends to work to the same acceptance criteria.
