This seven-part proposed revision will cover the following issues: During the development of ASTM E3082, it was discussed and agreed that both Method 1 and Method 2 were to be conducted for compliance with this Standard. While this is currently implied, the Task Group has asked that the Scope be further clarified. The use of the term well-lit was considered to be better understood than lighted. Also, Method 1 and Method 2 had different conditioning requirements only by 2 degrees C. the Task Group discussed and agreed that the conditioning for Test Method 1 be updated from 68 degrees C to 70 degrees C such that the two conditioning specifications for Methods 1 and 2 were the same. This ballot item simply adds tolerances for the burner diameter and wing tip opening. In addition, the phase the barrel is to be open-ended was considered by the Task Group to be clearer than the previous language. The proposed language adds clarity as to when the condition of the branches are to be noted, and adds clarity to the observance of needle loss. This change was and agreed upon by the Task Group. It was brought to the Task Groups attention that the language in 5.8.2 the tip of the burner is 34 in. below the level of the sheet metal box, is in conflict with the accompanying Figure 4 which states that the tip of the flame is to be the same level as the sheet metal box. After conferring with those experienced in running this method, it was determined that. This proposal reflects the appropriate manner that the test should be conducted and resolves the conflicting language. It was brought to the Task Groups attention that Sections 6.2 and 6.5 were primarily redundant. By adding within 10 seconds to Section 6.2, then Section 6.5 could be eliminated. This test procedure requires a conditioning period where a set of trees are maintained and well-watered, followed by a second conditioning period where the trees are not watered. While intuitive, the Standard did not explicitly state that the water be removed from the pans of the trees prior to the second conditioning. This ballot item makes the clarifying change.
