ASTM WK69858

New Specification for Working principles of a potentiostat/galvanostat

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: G01.11 | Committee G01 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK69858

    1. Scope

To give the user an overview on how a potentiostat/galvanostat (pgstat) works, in order to perform more reliable experiments.

    Keywords

potentiostat; galvanostat; pgstat; signal; operational amplifier; control; adder; measurement; potential; current.

    Rationale

The standard was requested during the G01.11 meeting in Atalanta 2017. The necessity comes since many researchers and engineers in electrochemistry do not know how a pgstat works. I t can be used as a guideline of the different parts of a pgstat, the role of each lead and input/output, so to have an aid to perform better measurement and getting more reliable data. The users will be researchers and engineers working in electrochemistry, and in electrochemistry applied in corrosion in particular.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
