Revision of F2236-16a Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers
Rationale
Several testing laboratories were testing only to Flammability per 16 CFR 1500.3(c)(6)(vi) in accordance with ASTM F963 Annex A5 for products comprised of fabric and non-fabric components and not assessing all fabrics to 16 CFR 1610 based on the previous wording in the standard. The revisions being balloted in the requirements and rationale are intended to add clarity and direction to assess all fabrics to 16 CFR 1610 and padded components to 16 CFR 1500.3(c)(6)(vi) in accordance with ASTM F963 Annex A5, as well . Accessories that come with and are attached to the product in actual use have been added to the requirements, as they become part of the product during use.
