ASTM WK69573

    Revision of C1884 - 18 Standard Specification for Concrete Ballast Block

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C1884 - 19

    Developed by Subcommittee: C15.03 | Committee C15 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK69573

    Keywords

    absorption; aggregates; ballast weight; cementitious; compressive strength; concrete ballast block; durability; limestone; portland cement;;

    Rationale

    Within ASTM C1884, there is a requirement that the oven-dry weight of the unit be within 2% of the required specified weight. In the Section on Sampling and Testing, however, reference is made to ballast weight. Ballast weight is a different property than oven-dry weight, and should not be used in this standard. This ballot proposes to change this. Additionally, the reference for testing of concrete ballast block is proposed to be modified to refer to Annex A1 for most of the testing (consistent with CMU) but that Annex A3 (for SRW units) is referenced for compressive strength. This is because ballast block strength testing is done on coupons, similar to SRW, while the rest of the testing is consistent with testing of CMU.
