ASTM WK69334

    Revision of D665 - 14e1 Standard Test Method for Rust-Preventing Characteristics of Inhibited Mineral Oil in the Presence of Water

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D665 - 14e1

    Developed by Subcommittee: D02.C0.02 | Committee D02 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK69334

    Keywords

    circulating oils; heavier-than-water fluids; hydraulic oils; inhibited mineral oil; rust-preventing characteristics; steam-turbine oils;;

    Rationale

    This proposed revision seeks to revise the Test Method to include the option of water as the bath medium to improve the safety of the Test Method. The oil makes the beaker slippery and difficult to handle when removing from the bath. The critical parameter for the bath medium is the ability to maintain the sample temperature at 60 C 1C. Data was submitted at the subcommittee level that current baths were capable of meeting the bath temperature requirements.
