ASTM WK69275

    New Practice for Non-intrusive Test of Automatic Tank Gauge Probes and Sensors Used For UST Leak Detection While the Leak Detection System is Operational.

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Developed by Subcommittee: E50.01 | Committee E50 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK69275

    1. Scope

    The test of the ATG system will verify configuration, alarm operability and battery backup; evaluate probes for residual build up; ensure floats move freely and shaft is not damaged; ensure cables are free of kinks and breaks allowing communication with the controller, with a report to properly document the results of the test.

    Keywords

    Automatic tank gauge; underground storage tank; US EPA; leak detection;

    Rationale

    40 CFR 280.40(a)(3)requires annual testing of ATG components. Manufactures have not published test criteria for operational components. Other standards require that probes and sensors be removed from the tank during testing. Removal may damage probes and sensors. Damaged components may not be re-installed in the tank. This non-intrusive test will be performed while the tank system is operational without removal of probes or sensors. This standard will be used by tank owners and their professional service technicians.

    The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
