    Rationale

    Currently there are no Sheet Steel grades that are defined specifically by hardness, rather than tensile properties. There are many Sheet Steel users that order steel specified to RB hardness requirements only, and there are no ASTM material specifications to reference. The only reference available for such grades is published for Strip Steel, per specification ASTM A109, which is not suitable for Sheet Steel products. This ballot provides definition and introduces Sheet Steel grades that are specifically defined by hardness. Based on persuasive negative votes on the initial ballot, changes have been made to be more thorough, enhance clarity and remove redundant information. The original focus of this ballot has not been altered. In response to a persuasive negative vote, Note 3 was added to table 6.
