    Rationale

    In 2018, Standard B825 was balloted for withdrawal as no current members of ASTM were aware of its use and it seemed that more advanced techniques are available. Subsequently, some users outside the current ASTM participants stated that they are using the method as it is less costly to implement than surface analysis methods and their laboratorys archives hold many historical results that serve to validate current work. While withdrawn standards are available from ASTM, users would prefer to cite a standard currently in force. Users cite ISA 72.04 (2013) as another organizations standard that requires the use of ASTM B825. The users of B825 have been requested to recommend updates to B825 that would improve its usefulness.
