    Rationale

    The last sentence in section 6 states The nominal bearing pin diameter shall be the same as the thickness of the sample. Given that standard pultruded structural shapes typically have component thicknesses (webs, flanges, plates, etc.) between 1/8 and 3/4 and steel connection pins (i.e. bolts or fasteners) allowed are in the range of 3/8 to 1 thick, the concern is that to require that the test sample thickness to always be equal to the pin (i.e. bolt or fastener) diameter renders the protocol unfit for many varying pin and material thickness combinations.
