ASTM WK68001

New Specification for Sampling of Hemp Plants for testing.

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D37.07 | Committee D37 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK68001

    1. Scope

To establish a set of protocols for sampling the hemp plant. Unlike other plants that focus on a specific product, hemp can produce several different agricultural products. Because of this, there needs to be separate sampling and testing for the component or product to be processed. These protocols will separate the components of the plant into different categories. This will include Stalks, seeds, leaves, flowers and include a hole hole plant survey. By doing this the portions of a crop that do not fall in line with the language in the 2018 Farm Bill can be separated/isolated and the portion of the plant that dose fit the language can be processed into commercial products.

    Keywords

Hemp, Plant, Sampling, Testing, Components, Separation, Isolation, Homogeneous

    Rationale

Hemp and hemp products are different than its cousin Cannabis, there for it should not be tasted as such. At the moment, most sampling protocols are focused on the flowers only. If most of, if not the hole plant is to be made homogeneous or processed as a hole, then the sampling should be reflective of that fact.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
