ASTM WK67959

    Revision of F2894 - 19 Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Materials, Protective Clothing, and Equipment for Heat Resistance Using a Hot Air Circulating Oven

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: F2894 - 19

    Developed by Subcommittee: F23.80 | Committee F23 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK67959

    Keywords

    convective heat; deformation; degradation; delamination; dimensional change; dripping; flaking; growth; hole formation; hot air circulating oven; ignition; melting; protective clothing; protective equipment; separation; shrinkage; splitting;;

    Rationale

    It has been brought to the attention of the heat and thermal subcommittee that procedural inconsistencies exist in the test method concerning hanging direction of a specimen in the oven. Additionally the standard practice of measuring airflow of the oven annually has been found to be insufficient for maintaining the chamber airflow requirements. The committee hopes to revise the verification schedule for airflow to be more regular in an effort to maintain consistency of test data across labs.
