This ballot seeks to revise Section 10 (Transportation, Curing, and Testing of Specimens). Currently Section 10.8 references ASTM C617 (Standard Practice for Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens), with Note 14 following, which states C617 refers to capping cylindrical specimens and may require modified alignment devices to ensure proper use with prism specimens. At the meeting of C12.02.03 (Task Group for C1019) in December, 2018 in Washington, DC, interest was expressed in adding ASTM C1231 (Standard Practice for Use of Unbonded Caps in Determination of Compressive Strength of Hardened Cylindrical Concrete Specimens) to C1019 as a capping method. Proposed changes are intended to allow for the use of ASTM C1231, with necessary additional language to allow for the differences between cylindrical and prism specimens. Upon successful passage of this item a separate item will be submitted to add ASTM C1231 to Section 2 (Referenced Documents).
